To All International Students
The Home Office announced on Thursday 10th July that they are to introduce charges
for applications for extensions of stay - £155 for applications made by post
(either independantly or through the International Office Batch Scheme) or £250 for
applications made in person at Public Enquiry Offices, including Croydon.
A press release announcing the new charges is on the Home Office’s Immigration and
Nationality Directorate website at:

The new charges will affect all applications made on the forms FLR(S) and FLR(O)
from the beginning of 1 August 2003 onwards. The existing application forms have
been revised and are available from the International Office.
If your student visa expires before August 31st and you wish to extend, either as a
student or a visitor, please come and see us before July 25th to ensure that you
avoid paying the new fees. All other students will, unfortunately, be required to
pay.
Please be aware now of the new charges and try to budget accordingly. Payment
should preferably be made by credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or by Switch as these
are the quickest to process. Payment can also be made by postal order (but this
will cost £7.55 from your local post office) or by cheque (but please note that
this will delay your application for up to a week while the Home Office waits for
the cheque to clear).
There are some changes to the new forms which should be noted - particularly that
you will need TWO passport-size photographs of you and ALL your dependants.
If you are extending your course in order to resit examinations or write up your
thesis (ie extending beyond the normal end-date of your course) you must have a
letter from your Department agreeing to this extension and stating a new completion
date. If you are receiving a government scholarship for your course, you will also
need a letter confirming continuation of funding for the extension, or a letter
from a former sponsor agreeing to the continuation of your study in the UK.
These new charges have come as a shock to all of us at the University. If you are
unhappy about the level of charges or the way in which they have been introduced
without prior warning, you may wish to protest to the local Member of Parliament.

这里的us是指你们学校的international office而不是home office吧

我也8月31号到期，听说现在就可以寄了，如果面签的话，5周之内就可以了

我想写信投诉.不知道伦敦这边应该写信给哪个MP?
游行阿，哥们们！又没有志愿者去home offic闹一下，放把火最好了，让这些英国鬼子见识见识我们“中国流氓“ 的利害。。。
刚看到这个消息的时候还动过给英国议员写信抗议的念头。
我们大家如果团结，动员很多人签名可能有用。
可是，每个人的想法和承受能力各有不同，反响的轻度自然不已。
另外，即使可以团结很多人联名写信，也未必就能引起英国政府的重视。我们毕竟是外国人，在英国没有选举权。英国政客可是不怕得罪我们这些没有选举权的外国学生的。
再者说了，英国政府这次既然下了这么黑得手，要钱的胃口这么大，那也不会因为我们反对就罢了。
不过我觉得大家还是应该团结起来进行一定程度的抗议，否则我们就是向英国政府发出了一个与我们很不利的信号，以后收钱恐怕会更黑。
各位怎样想的，请跟贴。
真是狮子大开口呀！150镑寄签，250镑免签，这哪里是在签证呀！
我今天才看到这条消息，感觉真的是气愤呀！
收费也就吧了，还不是一件不可接受的事情！
可是看一看收费的金额吧，155镑寄签，250镑面签。
再看一看英国政府内政部大臣hughes的讲话，收费的原因是因为外国人应该为我们所用的移民服务支付应有的费用，可是英国政府真的就这样低效率么？？以至于处理一个签证申请要耗费150到250镑。讲话中还提到说这样做可以每年节省英国纳税人90million，这恐怕不但是在弥补签证申请的成本吧？恐怕英国政府在从中获利吧！
我们留学生为英国经济注入了多少外汇，为他们的教育系统创造了多少收入，可现在却要我们为因为居高不下的难民人数而不堪重负的英国移民体系支付账单，真是太让人失望了！
英国已远非昔日之大英帝国，作事情竟然是这样卑鄙无耻。我们留学生在他们这些英国官员眼里恐怕还敢不上那些难民吧！

我看英国现在有点穷疯了。开始是投信需要加钱，现在是续签，不知道以后该什么了！！！
寄签又便宜又省事，何乐而不为？但唯一的缺点有时时间没保证。最好通过学校统一寄，normailly through the internatinal student service.我的当时3天就回来了.good luck everyone!
