  5. What will the business do or offer?
  6. What does the business want (eg - The Business is seeking assistance with its total start-up costs of £xxxx, to date the owner/directors/proprietor/partners have invested £xxxx of their own money. Therefore the business is requesting a loan of £xxxx repayable over 1/2/3/4/5 years.
    With the above information the reader will have all of the information needed to make you plan easier to read. THE ABOVE SHOULD BE ONE PARAGRAPH ONLY.

Details and nature of funding sought and any finance already obtained

Clear and succinct summary of the business idea / concept including reasons for the location of business

Brief description of any unique features the business may have

Relevant background information

Details of when business was formed and why

Brief account of marketing history to support the service / product
A brief account of owner’s background and description of their role(s)

NB evidence of past purchasing patterns is normally more reliable than a verbal statement of an intention to buy in the future.

Location – e.g. whether on a High Street, secondary location or perhaps working from home. What are road and rail links like?
Premises – size, tenure (freehold/leasehold), terms of any lease including rent and rates.
Demographics of the area the business is located in-advantage or disadvantage?
Opening/Operating hours
Service provision details
Legal considerations
Licenses /permits /permissions required
Management controls
Insurance (eg Public liability, employer’s liability, stock, equipment, motor vehicles etc)
A Health & Safely policy is legally required for 5 or more employees
Technology and ICT issues. How are records maintained?

Set up / start up costs including details of capital purchases.
12 months sales forecast by amount and if appropriate by contract
Sales forecast model /assumptions
12 months projected cash flow forecast model. (Longer period if required)

Projected profit / loss calculation for the next 12 months
Break even calculation
Details of any offers of finance from a bank, finance company, investor

Owners’ “Personal Survival Budget” detailing monthly expenditure and all existing financial commitments
Offer letters/ agreement letters from investors in or lenders to the business
Details and evidence of market research surveys
Appropriate certificates / licences
Certificates of insurance
Copy of owners CV, including personal, educational and career details
Details/abridged CVs of any key staff
Details or examples of sales literature/if appropriate website, website images
Photographic images of premises, products or samples

  1. ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR EXISTING BUSINESSES
  1. Evidence of trading history including last 3 years accounts if available

  2. Management financial and trading information since the end of the last accounting period should be provided, together with details of current debtors and creditors. These should be in the appendices not in the main body of the Plan.

  3. Businesses already trading should attach copies of their last 6 months bank statements, together with copies of VAT returns since the last full set of accounts. These should be in the appendices not in the main body of the Plan.

  4. A statement confirming that PAYE, National Insurance, VAT plus business rent and business rates are paid up to date. If there is any arrears details must be provided.
