你没数据,那我告诉你。中国每年因为电信诈骗损失百亿,里面大多是百姓。PhD 是有,只是很少...
PhDs are supposed to be clever; as you have already mentioned. People have high expectations of them.
If PhDs can't escape these traps, what are the chances of non-PhD people escaping the same fate?
But on this case, i don't feel the PhDs are any cleverer than the general public - at least from my small pool of 'examples' of roughly 500 people, they are the entire opposite.
In my 'sample data' there is no Chinese people. They are all my colleagues and students at my work place. it's roughly 50/50 split of Phd(including teaching staff and professors) and non-phDs . (My school is among the very few ones that have very limited number of Chinese students. ) In this sample of almost 500 people, all 4 victims are our PhD students.
Now you may say my database is too small. My data is not scientific. My data is biased.
My husband is an Engineering PhD, and we have similar arguments at home now and then.
People's opinions do not relying on just data. There are emotions, there are prejudice in play that you cannot explain. From my personal informal observations, people with engineering background generally do not like this idea. They ONLY see data; and they demand every opinion is supported by data.
This is why in my opinion PhDs, especially Engineering/Science PhDs have a different 'brain circuit' - they process information differently from other people. I have the opinion that they find it difficult to understand, almost in denial of, people's emotions and prejudice form opinions.
I feel sorry for your loss. But I am also entitled to my opinion. There is not just black and white; truth or false in the world, especially on how people's mind work. There is gray area, there are in-betweens. I am a human, not a Vulcan.
I am happy to agree to disagree. |
