Masters degree is first to gain ACCA status
University of Dundee gains accreditation By Emily Beattie
An accountancy masters degree has become the first postgraduate programme to receive an ACCA accreditation.
The University of Dundee holds an MSc Professional Accountancy qualification, which is now the first course to combine the masters level of study with a full professional body accreditation from the ACCA.
Programme director of the university’s school of accounting & finance Dr Louise Crawford said the launch of the degree will allow students to focus their postgraduate study on the accountancy profession thereby attracting professional body accreditation.
She added that overseas students such as those from India and China hold undergraduate degrees that don’t attract professional body accreditation.
‘This degree programme offers such graduates the chance to attain a postgraduate qualification combined with full professional body accreditation from a global professional accountancy body,’ she said.
‘There is also potential for individuals with appropriate practitioner experience, but who are not professionally qualified, to access this programme. It is anticipated that this programme will be very attractive to international accounting graduates and national experienced practitioners,’ she added.
Last month the school launched a new MSc Islamic accounting & finance course, the first of its type at a Scottish university.
