It is necessary to send your and your partner’s passport,
If the settled role is father, marriage certificate is needed, with translation if in other language.
Check list:
Baby birth certificate, photos, with or without passport
Parents passport, with settlement cards, marriage certificate where applies
application form and fee form
statement
other files you may have to send
No need of using of the check service ,if you have no urgent travel plan.
The processing time become shorter recently, most applicants take 1 to 3 months

There should be no doubts in the events that you have fully understood the guideline.
The documents of parents, including passports and Settlement cards, are required by the application.
,then send to Home Office on your behalf.
Should you need your passport, you have to use the council check service, which review your application and documents and keep a photocopys of them,
Then return your original ones. It it the best way. However, there is a fee payable to the council.
Unsatisfied supporting documents may delay your application, even cause unsuccessful decision.
Hopefully you may have your idea now.( I just made my own MN1 application)
Gud lucks
