Matthew elliott。 leave campaign 的 ceo.
adviser of young briton foundation, claims nhs is biggest waste of money in the uk,
globe warming isn’t real, greenpeace activist should be shot.
The City of London has been a financial centre before the EU came into existence.
However a Breixt is no-doubtly going to change the status quo.
According to TheCityUK, although being outside of the single currency, London currently boasts around 70% of the market for euro-denominated interest-rate derivatives, 90% of European prime brokerage (assisting hedge funds with trading) and more besides.
Some of the world’s biggest financial institutions have made London the first choice for their European base. Goldman Sachs have 6,000 out of their 6,500 European employees based in London.
With a Brexit, banks’ ‘passporting’ right which allows British based banks and investment firms to operate freely in all EU member states will be put into question. Frankfurt and Paris will most certainly not miss the opportunity (especially when politicians in Germany and France are getting ready for their general elections next year).
John Cryan, Deutsche Bank’s co-chief executive, said earlier this year that it’d be odd to trade European government bonds and currency in a non-EU branch of a German bank.
Even if, in the end, London manages to retain a similar right for British based institutions, long and hard negotiations and renegotiations will be inevitable with matters hanging in the air awkwardly for a potentially prolonged period. And, as most of us know, capital usually lacks patience.
A dear friend of mine thinks another international financial crisis is not entirely impossible with Brexit.
Not being a keen observer of the EU debate myself, I believe everybody should vote according to their own interests and ideas.
I can, however, imagine why the topic of the City may be muted to a great extent in the debate. Mentioning the City could hardly benefit a political campaign
And most of the top traders don’t talk about politics. They bet on it.
