What do students have to do if they want to do a different course of study with their Tier 4 sponsor?
只换课程不换学校
If your new course is the same length as the course you already have permission for and it is with the same education provider you do not need to do anything.
If your new course is shorter than the course you already have permission for you must tell the UKBA by emailing them at [email protected]
If your new course is longer than the course you already have permission for you will need to make a new immigration application and should seek further advice. At the University of Essex, students can only change their course with academic approval. Once approved, if your new course is longer than the one you have immigration permission for, the University expects you to make a new immigration application immediately. The Registry will need to see evidence of your visa application.

换新的学校
If your application was made in the UK and sent by post it will be the date of posting or, if it was sent by courier it will be the date it was delivered to the UKBA.
If your application was made overseas it will be taken to be the date that the application fee was paid, as shown on the payment receipt.
Students who applied before the 5th October 2009
If a student wants to study with a new Tier 4 sponsor and he/she made his/her last application for a Tier 4 visa before 5 October 2009, he/she must get written permission from the UKBA if they have time left in their permission to stay, and want to do the same or a different course of study with a new Tier 4 sponsor. Students must tell the UKBA by sending an email including:
the new course and the start and finish dates; and
the new Tier 4 sponsor name, address and contact details.
The email address the student should send this to is [email protected]
The UKBA will give the student a letter of permission saying he/she is allowed to use his/her existing permission to stay to study with the new Tier 4 sponsor if:
the Tier 4 sponsor is approved by the UKBA and on the tier 4 register of sponsors (which can be found on the website); and
they can confirm the Tier 4 sponsor wants to act as the student new Tier 4 sponsor; and
the course meets the requirements for the General or Child student category.
If a student has told the UKBA about changing his/her Tier 4 sponsor, he/she can start the new course before he/she gets permission from us, but he/she does so at his/her own risk as they could refuse the permission. The UKBA will send a letter saying they have received the request to change Tier 4 sponsor.
Under the Immigration Rules, your permission to stay in the UK as a student if he/she changes his/her Tier 4 sponsor without getting our permission could be limited.
If a student wants to take up a new course of study, either with his/her existing Tier 4 sponsor or with a new Tier 4 sponsor, and the length of the new course goes over his/her current permission to stay, he/she will need to apply with a new application to the UKBA. Note: it is advisable to make this application as soon as possible.
Students who applied on or after 5 October 2009
If a student wants to study with a new Tier 4 sponsor and he/she made his/her last application for a Tier 4 visa on or after 5 October 2009, he/she must apply for a new Tier 4 visa. If a student has entered the United Kingdom using his/her Tier 4 Visa, and the student wants to study with a new Tier 4 sponsor before that visa has expired, he/she must always make his/her new application from inside of the United Kingdom. If a student makes his/her new application from outside of the United Kingdom it will be refused.
A student can not start his/her new course until a new Tier 4 visa has been approved.
A student can leave his/her current Tier 4 sponsor before his/her new Tier 4 visa application has been decided. However, a student does this at his/her own risk, as if his/her new Tier 4 visa is refused, he/she may not be able to go back to his/her old course.
What happens if my course ends early?
The UKBA will limit your permission to stay to 60 days if your course ends earlier than expected. For example, if you are withdrawn from your course or you finish earlier than expected.
If you have less than 6 months left of your permission to stay the UKBA will not limit your permission and you can stay until that permission runs out.
