想知道如何准备英国中小公司的面试不? 这里一一道来!

我想不少留学的同学是希望现在中小公司锻炼一下。

大家也许都知道, 英国大公司大都不会要求你有相关的学业背景。而是更多地从胜任力的角度来考察。因为大公司都会有正规的毕业生培训项目,公司愿意花时间花钱来培训你只要他们认为你有足够的潜力。但是中小公司就不一样了,一般的中小公司,除了像会计、法律等专业性比较强行业,公司有可能会赞助你去学习相关的证书,一般情况下大部分都要求你能在短期(几个星期)的培训下就能马上上手工作。因此,面试的时候公司主要还是集中在询问你有没有相关工作经验、能不能合群,并检测你对薪资、培训等有没有过高的要求以至于公司无法满足。公司往往很少询问胜任力相关的问题。

那么如何下手准备这类面试呢? 我就举个应聘Global Monitor 的Graduate Research Analyst的例子来讲解。


Graduate Research Analyst - FMCG职位说明

About the Job

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate to join our FMCG team as a research analyst. The role will suit a graduate who has strong research and writing skills and who has a passion for, and a good understanding of FMCG.

You will be working as part of a team of FMCG analysts, sharing ideas and insight, but also taking ownership of specific product areas, where you will have responsibility for researching, writing and updating reports, dealing with client queries, and working with Global Monitor’s in-house statisticians, sales team and marketing/PR teams.

Responsibilities

Report research and writing: You will be using a wide range of research tools, including primary and secondary sources alongside quantitative and qualitative consumer research, to create insightful, relevant reports in a wide range of consumer-facing technology markets.

Insight generation: Both as part of the report writing process and in your interactions with clients and industry figures, you’ll need to be able to turn consumer research findings, market data and industry knowledge into actionable insight for clients.

Building relationships with clients and industry figures: Global Monitor’s clients range from small marketing agencies to the multi-national technology giants. Information flows both ways. We help clients understand the markets in which they or their own clients are operating, but also draw on their knowledge as part of the report-writing process, conducting trade interviews in order to gain insight into the key issues facing the industry.

Working with other Global Monitor teams: Analysts have daily contact with a wide range of colleagues in other areas of the company. Key contacts include our research services team, who manage consumer research and provide statistical support, our sales team, and our PR and marketing teams.

Who we are looking for:

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate:

• The ability to communicate difficult concepts in a clear, straightforward way.
• A passion for and understanding of the consumer FMCG sector.
• A high degree of numeracy.
• Secondary research skills: as well as our own data, Global Monitor reports make extensive use of secondary data sources, such as industry or government data.
• A talent for seeing the patterns behind data, and understanding what these patterns might mean for consumers and the companies serving those consumers.
• Great organisational skills.
• The potential to develop the ability to talk knowledgeably with our internal sales teams about your reports.
• The potential to develop the ability to talk knowledgeably and confidently with our external clients about your area of expertise.


如果你对这个工作感兴趣的话,那么

你第一步要做的是仔细阅读这个职位说明以及Global Monitor的公司的网站、相关新闻、年报等,先让自己对于这个工作有一定的了解。接着如果你能找到曾经或者正在这个领域工作的人交流一下的话会更好。如果没有的话,就得自己一是设想这个工作具体做什么,就上面提到的这个例子,用简单的话来说就是调查研究FMCG行业,写报告,能够跟不同的人介绍自己所写的报告内容。那么这份工作要求申请者拥有什么专业知识及工作技能呢?既然要调查研究FMCG行业,你至少要去了解一下FMCG是什么,除非你自己曾经在这个行业呆过。接着你去找Global Monitor以及它的竞争对手写过的相关报告。对于这份报告的格式,内容如何调查研究有个了解。然后你还可以打电话到他们的相关部门去跟他们的研究人员(也就是将来可能是你的同事的人)进一步了解一下,从而让自己对该工作有进一步更直观的了解。那么要做好这份工作需要具有什么样的个性特点呢?认真注重细节、对时间比较有紧迫感、善于交谈、肯动脑筋肯坚持的个性特点。要完成这个这个步骤其实跟前面书写求职信的时候提到要自问的问题差不多。这里也不过多地讨论了。

这个步骤做完了以后,再来看看自己的简历,分析一下自己的教育背景、以前的工作经验等有哪些可以证明自己有这方面的技能。如果发现自己没有相关直接的技能的话,那么之前的工作经验又没有可以相应转化过来的。如果没有的话,那么有哪些你是可以在短期之内补上的。

总结一下具体的步骤

• 一是设想这个工作具体做什么
• 二是分析这份工作要求申请者拥有什么专业知识及工作技能
• 三是分析这份工作要求求职者具有什么样的个性特点

因此面试官在面试这个职位的时候会考察以下几点

• Good research and writing skills
• Good communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Good team player

那么面试的时候除了考察这几点,面试官想从你的回答中找自己内心深处哪些疑问的答案呢?

• You know exactly what this job involves
• You are passionate about this job
• You are good enough for the job
• You can get along well with other team member
• You potentially can be excellent at this job
• You are not going to quit the job after training
• You are manageable

那么在面试的时候, 一般不会直接问:Are you passionate about this job?

那么,面试官可能会怎么问问题呢?现在咱们来设想一下场景。面试一开始一般是来一个小的寒暄,面试官会作一个简短的自我介绍。然后开始问 So tell me about yourself,然后过一遍你的简历并问一些问题来判断你的个性特点、团队合作能力以及是否好管理。

接着面试官会问一下的问来来了解其他方面。

要判断You know exactly what this job involves,面试官可能会问

• What do you know about FMCG?
• What do you know about this job?

要判断You are passionate about this job,面试官可能会问

• What do you know about Global Monitor?
• Why FMCG?
• Why do you want to work for us?

要判断You potentially can be excellent at this job,面试官可能会问

• Do you have any relevant experience in primary and secondary research?
• How did you do primary and secondary research? If I want to find the sales data for let’s say chair, what would you do?
• How will you make sure the data is update and accurate?

这些情况你都了解了这后,接下来要准备就容易得多了。大公司面试的大家所犯的面试同病以及面试原则和技巧,在这里大部分也都适用。唯一在中小公司面试和大公司有一个比较的区别就是在中小公司,面试你的人很可能就是你的将来的上司或者可以拍板作决定的人。因此不像之前提到的,大公司胜任力的问题80%的时间你在说,20%的时间面试官在说。中小公司的面试最好能达到一个50%你在说,而50%面试官在说的效果。除了能表达清楚你是能做好这份工作以外,你要让整个面试氛围融洽起来,让面试官喜欢你。那么,加上之前充足的准备。你拿到工作机会的胜算就很大了。
