However, there are more reasons to be fearful. Nine years ago, Ms Reeves had her parliamentary credit card suspended because she owed more than £4,000 of unauthorised payments.
A Freedom of Information Act request revealed that Ms Reeves, then shadow work and pensions secretary, was one of 19 MPs to have their cards suspended by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) after failing to show spending was genuine.
Like her fellow MPs frozen out of their credit, Reeves’s tab was eventually recouped by Ipsa, which refused to pay out valid claims until her debt was settled later that year.

The chancellor now says the government will increase funding significantly for local governments next year.
Reeves adds that Greater Manchester and the West Midlands will be the first mayoral authorities to receive integrated settlements from next year.

The current 75% discount to business rates - due to expire in April 2025 - will be replaced by a discount of 40% - up to a maximum discount of £110k.
