An 18-year-old woman in China, identified as Ms. Yang, has adopted an unconventional approach to saving money by transforming her workplace’s restroom into her living space. Employed at a furniture store, she pays her employer a nominal fee of approximately ₹540 per month, covering only electricity and water expenses.

Yang earns about ₹34,570 monthly and manages to keep her expenses around ₹4,580, allowing her to save a significant portion of her income. She documents her daily life on Douyin, a Chinese social media platform, where she has attracted over 16,000 followers.

To create a functional living area, Yang hangs a large cloth over the bathroom stalls for privacy and uses a folding bed that also serves as a barrier to the entrance. She has set up a clothing rack for her belongings and utilizes a portable hob for cooking within the bathroom. Her routine includes preparing meals, doing laundry, and drying clothes on the building’s rooftop. Yang ensures the restroom is thoroughly cleaned to maintain hygiene and packs up her belongings during store hours to allow customers and employees to use the facility without inconvenience.

Despite the unconventional living arrangement, Yang remains content and focused on her goal of saving enough money to purchase a home or car in the future. Her boss, while supportive, has remarked that she might be “too thrifty” with her expenses.

Ms. Yang, whose given name was withheld in a Jam Press report, works at a furniture store, and her boss lets her rent out the bathroom for just £5 ($6.47) per month.【New York post】
