X Factor reject Gamu Nhengu is to be kicked out of Scotland after losing her appeal against deportation.
The singer will be told she has to return to her native Zimbabwe as soon as possible… or face being forcibly removed, the Sunday Mirror can reveal. The shock decision from the Home Office comes despite Gamu, 19, and her family appearing to receive a reprieve in November and being backed by Simon Cowell’s lawyers.
Gamu previously told how she would face a “firing squad” if she was sent back to Zimbabwe but Border Agency chiefs have ruled that it is safe for her to return. An immigration source said: “Gamu and her family will hear shortly that their appeal to stay has failed.
“The view was that there is no legitimate reason why they cannot return to Zimbabwe as the situation there is stable. Just because somebody becomes a celebrity, does not mean they have a right to stay in the UK.” Gamu, of Tillicoultry, whose family moved to the UK eight years ago, caused a national uproar – dubbed Gamugate – when she was kicked off X Factor by judge Cheryl Cole.

The singer made it through to the Boot Camp stage but was controversially dumped in favour of Cher Lloyd, 17 – who could barely sing because of a throat infection – and Katie Waissel, 24, who fluffed her words. More than 250,000 fans signed a Facebook page protesting against the decision. Days later Gamu, mum Nokuthula Ngazana, and brothers Milton, 11, and Marty, nine, were told they must leave the UK.
Her mother’s visa had expired last year and their application to remain was rejected after it emerged she had claimed £16k in working tax credits.
Gamu is currently on a UK tour singing at nightclubs.
