I had an IB interview long time ago―back in November. So as far as I can remember i had one test and interview on one day.(bear in mind different banks/divisions have different ways to assess your skills
The test were paper based and it’s about venture capital project valuation. Don’t worry, it sounds difficult but you have time to practice I think 2 examples before the tests and the time to ask the HR questions. More in detail: you have risk and return and the project specific rules in order to choose between ‘take’, ‘reject’ or ‘wait and see’. You have simple diagrams, balance sheets, profit&loss account, do some simple calculations….etc in order to choose the appreciate answer. Don’t worry if you can’t finish but work accurately.
I had 2 interviewers: one HR and one Manager from your applied division, for example fixed income sales and trading. Typical questions like how do you build relationships? When have you made a significant decision? And leadership and teamwork, I was asked a leadership question like: some people say leadership can be trained but others say someone is born to be a leader, what do you think?
And obviously a typical IB question: why IB? Why XXX? And Why fixed income etc…
If you go for trading interview, be prepared for both technical(current interest rates, how to price bond? what is CAPM? etc) and brain teaser questions like what’s the sqaure root of 13? How many red cars in the UK?Again, they want to see how you react under high pressure and how you think on your feet and he key is critical, logical thinking…the answer is not that important but your approach of giving the answer is!
Good luck!
