traders come from all sorts of background, i met some traders who do not even have university degrees. Not all traders are well paid, there are lots of them who are not making much money but still behaves like a hot shot star trader…
Generally traders are classified as:
Prop traders: who uses banks own money to invest, these guys are extremely good and well paid (in fact in almost every investment bank before the credit crunch, the highest paid employees are always prop traders). Lots prop traders have now left investment banks to run hedge funds like my boss.
Market makers: those are the traders working in trading floor of investment banks, they make money by profiting from spreads between bid/ask price, well paid at senior level with 6 years of experience, not at the low level.
Executing traders: execute trades only, don’t take on risks. sort of boring to me.
i am not working for a big bank anymore therefore i don’t have many CVs. (the company i am working for now only recruits through headhunters). i think it is fine to personalized your CV to make it stands out, while at the same time keep it simple and clean. Much like you girls try to use make-ups, i think you are better than me in both.
few but there are women in trading, i met one or two, generally in their 30s, well paid, single and tough. Also met one who is very senior and has a family with two kids, so… really depends
yeahh i’ve heard a lot of people say that if you are a female trade or ibanker you have to be really tough…and most young women don’t last more than a year. But why exactly is that?
回答为什么跳槽一定不要说自己过去的工作不好，一定只说positive. 我听的比较好的回答一般是: I had a great time at [previous employer], the job was exciting and i like the people i worked with there. However, in terms of [long-term prospective], i feel [reason for leaving].
好的headhunter 同时也会想从你那拿到消息，比如你公司有谁想离开，他们电话/email是什么, (我当过不少次内奸:cn14: )，现在行业bonus都是多少，哪个area 正在招人，他想推荐的人在行业的口碑怎么样等等，总之这个行业其实很小，你干干就知道了，尤其hedge fund一般都focus on specific strategy 比如long/short, risk arb, special sits, distressed credit, quant, CTA etc. 在一定的strategy里其实都认识说听说过，我经常和我们的竞争对手参加聚会或者会议，互相打探消息，散播谣言。。。

我刚来现在公司才6个月就又开始问我好不好，不好再走。。。。(他们一般把人介绍进去3个月适用期过后才会拿到钱), 同时我现在的公司如果再想雇人的话一般是我来负责(好多基金没有hr，一般面试candidate我们都面，都点头才行)，我会把这项工作给我认识的headhunter帮他赚钱。
